IN THE COMMUNITY
Cascade is an integral part of the community. We provide a safe, secure, supportive and controlled environment for people with autism, mental health and learning difficulties to lead the most fulfilling lives.
That means enriching and enhancing their adaptive skills, and encouraging them to be the best they can be. Our people are encouraged through creative, educational, cultural and recreational activities to thrive in their local communities. And we can’t do it without you.
We want you to be a part of what we are trying to achieve. Talk to us about the people we help and please, try not to judge. Being nice in the supermarket, giving up a seat in the cafe, or just offering a friendly smile is a good place to start.
People who live with a learning difficulty, autism spectrum condition or mental health condition have a fundamental right to actively participate in society. This includes access and participation in social activities, the right to employment, and to feel their voices are heard at a local and national level.
Cascade knows that feeling socially included is paramount, not only to a person's sense of belonging, but also to develop independence. To ingrain this within our homes, we seek out the following:
- Appropriate work experience with local businesses
- Relationships with local colleges to access work placement schemes
- Encourage our residents to develop employability skills
- Seek out inclusive social activities in the local area
- Work collaboratively with other services or businesses to provide inclusive opportunities
- Actively participate in the local community
- An understanding of politics on a local and national level, and each individual’s right to vote
Engagement
That means becoming fully engaged in all aspects of community life, including work,
and contributing freely and independently with comfort and confidence.
