Overview

Job Title: Support Worker (Children’s)

Reports to: Registered Manager of children’s Home

Job Overview:

  • To provide care in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements, reflecting policies and procedures and agreed standards under the direction of the home’s management team and other senior staff.

  • To support and enable children to maintain skills and personal interests whilst delivering person-centred care unique to each individual

  • To maintain skills at a current level, undertake such training and development as required from time-to-time to maintain and progress knowledge

  • In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required.

Location: Cascade (Felix House) Limited. Hull, but you may be required to work from other locations at the discretion of the company and with appropriate notice.

Working Hours: Varying shift patterns as agreed with the manager.

Rate of pay: £12.10 - £12.40 per hour depending on qualification

Overtime rate (40 hours+): £13.85 - £14.15

Responsibilities and duties for the job 

Role Specific Duties:

  • Ensure children are at the heart of care delivery and their wishes and preferences enhance their wellbeing

  • Contribute to the efficient running of the service

  • Support children to maintain their relationships and connections with the local community

  • Ensure Care Support Plans and other information about how to support children are followed

  • Be responsible for informing the management team and colleagues of any changes in the needs of children

  • Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of those individuals they support

Working with Others:

  • Develop effective working relationships with other employees across the company

  • Work in cooperation with members of the multi-disciplinary teams to maximise opportunities for children

  • If desired by the children, maintain and develop relationships with family, friends and other people important in their life

Leading by Example:

  • Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth

  • Be a role model for other carers and be an ambassador for the home and  the wider company

  • Be professional, polite and reasonable at all times

Personal Responsibilities:

  • Have a good  understanding of the role of Ofsted and their requirements, and work in a way that meets these requirements as directed by management including a good knowledge of the 9 quality standards

  • Commit to achieving the relevant qualifications commensurate with the role

  • Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management

  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures relevant to the role

Skills required

Person Skills:

  • Provide children with support/assistance as they accomplish daily tasks and living skills

  • Communicate any problems, concerns or changes

  • Ability to aid with inductions of new employees to the job role and service if required

Communication Skills:

  • Care support workers must build rapport with children by establishing personal connections and showing interest in their lives

  • Care support workers must be able to communicate effectively with children

  • Care support workers must have the communication skills to inform colleagues, management and professionals about the needs of children

  • Ability to record daily notes relating to the child

Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Care Support Workers need to be able to adapt and address to challenging situations quickly

Be involved with the planning, developing and implementing approaches to promote health and well-being, whilst recognising and reporting situations where there might be a need for protection

Qualifications required:

A Level 3 in Childcare is preferable.

Skills for care - Care certificate Level 2 within 12 weeks of commencement of employment.
